Building a great website is much more than interspersing text with the odd image and flashy animations. A well designed and planned website will attract and engage with your visitors.
For over ten years Vision Thing have been designing websites for clients across the North East of England and beyond.
During that time we have developed a web design process that combines user-centred design, rapid prototyping and progressive enhancement, a process that works for single page websites to sites with hundreds of pages.
Our design process is proven to rapidly build effective and engaging websites that meet and exceed your project goals.
Your website is often the first interaction a visitor will have with your organisation, so it needs to have an immediate impact on them.
Each visitor to your website has their own requirements and goals. Specifically targeting those goals enables us to develop websites that are designed to drive results.
That is why focusing on your website’s visitors at every stage of a project allows us to build websites that will leave a lasting impression.
We design websites for clients large and small, from multi-million pound businesses to startups, one man bands and charities. Our collaborative approach keeps our clients at the heart of a project. Don’t just take our word for it, see what our clients say about us.
We begin all of our projects, large or small with a Discovery Phase, where we will meet with key stakeholders to learn about your organisation, the project goals and who the users of your website will be.
During our information gathering we will ask; who is the website aimed at, what are your visitors requirements, what are the project goals? We will discuss the websites content, structure, search engine optimisation strategy, branding, who your competitors are and any unique requirements of the project.
The Discovery Phase is the most important part of our web development process. Working with you to determine and develop a detailed brief ensures the whole project can set off in the right direction.
Except on the simplest of websites, we begin the planning phase by creating ‘user personas’. Personas represent the visitors to your website, they are a tool that help us understand a user’s goals and how we will present content to them in an intuitive way.
When we have a detailed understanding of your visitor’s goals we plan the structure of the website by designing a sitemap. A sitemap defines the websites’ architecture and the users journey through the site.
Our next step is to build wireframes for each of the main pages of the website. A wireframe displays the basic layout of the pages, showing navigation menus, content and any interactive elements, such as contact forms.
Building from the previous stages, we work from the sitemap, wireframes, content and branding to design individual web page templates.
During this phase of the process we start to consider how your branding, graphical elements and content will fit together cohesively. We examine how a visitor will view a page, which elements should take precedence, how we will lead the viewer with call-to-actions and how the page will get its message across.
We develop our designs iteratively, at each stage, we consult with stakeholders, test the designs on users, test on PCs, Tablets and mobiles, we build for accessibility and performance, then refine the design and consult again.
We develop using Progressive Enhancement, starting with a rock-solid foundation that will work on the most basic of devices and web browsers, we then enhance the design for more capable browsers and cutting edge devices.
Keeping stakeholders and users involved at every stage of the process allows us to build your ideal website, a website that will inspire and engage with your visitors.
When we have the individual page templates in place, we can start to add the functionality behind the scenes.
Our developers will take the front-end code and add it to a Content Management System, develop any bespoke functionality required such as databases, ecommerce gateways, social media and third party integrations.
Then we will do a final round of testing and tweaking to ensure that everything works exactly as it should.
Our proven website design process, combining rapid prototyping and keeping stakeholders involved, allows us to ensure our projects stay focussed and deliver effective websites on time and on budget.
